Still crazy (and good) after all these years

I do not know how long 10socks has been up, but I like it. I first encountered this renegade site probably back in 2001 or so. And I see they have the cahones to keep the site the same in spite of all the advice all over the net to the contrary.

What makes them different? I am glad you asked, but allow me to help you there. The proper question is What makes them better? Well, where should I start?

Could it be any of the following:
  1. They have been on line with a great site for many years
  2. The site defies the 3x4 aspect ratio mentality - "defies" is actually not a strong enough word. I think the word I am looking for is "spitsinthefaceof" - yeah, that's the word.
  3. One knows what they have just from the URL alone
  4. One knows what they can order just from the URL alone
  5. The copy is funny - especially the comments from "mom"
  6. The music is appropriate - which is saying a lot if you surf to many sites that force you down a path of their musical inclinations
  7. It is such a fun experience that it makes one want to surf the whole thing and see what else is there
  8. and they have been on line with a great site for many years
In this day and age (I hate that phrase -it means next to nothing to me) full of data smog and me-too projects, it is like having cool stream water to drink from your hands when you are stopped for a rest on that mountain hike that seemed easier than it really was. It just gives me more reason to press on and try to do good work that someone - anyone - will look at in 10 years and say "the proper question is why is it better?"
